Shashi Tharoor on Modi Putin Meeting: Shashi Tharoor described the chemistry between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin as positive, but also put forward the expectations of the opposition on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations. He said that in democracy one should meet all the parties, one should also meet the government and the opposition. Tharoor stressed that when a foreign leader comes, the government should arrange a meeting with the opposition.
New Delhi. Senior Congress leader and former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has recently termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reception of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the airport as a big message. He made it clear that this reflects India’s foreign policy where we want good relations with every nation. While talking to StuffUnknownIndia, India’s former Minister of State for External Affairs Tharoor also responded to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that the Central Government was stopping him from meeting foreign guests.
Modi-Putin chemistry and Rahul’s allegations
Shashi Tharoor also commented on the personal chemistry of Modi-Putin and said that he has seen that Modi ji has good chemistry with everyone. However, he also put forward his party’s expectations as the leader of the opposition on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations. Rahul Gandhi said, “We want to meet all parties in democracy. We should meet the government and the opposition.” Tharoor called it a normal democratic process that when a foreign leader comes to India, he should meet both the government and the opposition. He said that if there is time, why should the Prime Minister not meet the leader of the opposition? This statement reflects the democratic spirit of respect and dialogue towards the opposition.
Different relations with Russia
Underlining the importance of the age-old relations between India and Russia, Shashi Tharoor said, “Our relations with Russia are very important. It is a very old relationship, even today we have to take it forward in a new way.” He emphasized that India’s relationship with Russia is different from its relationship with America or China. This is not in any way contradictory to each other, rather it is a proof of India’s independent foreign policy. Tharoor also highlighted the usefulness of Russian cooperation from the security point of view. He mentioned Operation Sindoor during which the S-400 missile defense system received from Russia proved to be very useful and played an important role in thwarting the missiles sent from Pakistan. His statement not only shows the depth of defense cooperation but also proves that India is not alone even in times of tough tariffs.
