Health Tips: In India, tea is not just a taste but an important part of the daily routine. According to Dr. Smita Srivastava, officer in-charge of Government AYUSH Hospital, Shivgarh, Rae Bareli, the polyphenols, flavonoids and antioxidants present in tea leaves help in protecting the body from diseases. Tea made in limited quantities is beneficial for the heart, improves blood circulation and controls cholesterol. Tea is also helpful in reducing stress, improving digestion, controlling weight and maintaining skin and hair health. Dr. Smita suggests that light tea two to three times a day is sufficient, while green tea or herbal tea without milk and sugar is more beneficial. Thick tea should be avoided on an empty stomach.
