Simple beginnings, strong foundation
Radhakishan Damani, born on 12 July 1954 in Bikaner, Rajasthan, comes from a Marwari family. His childhood was spent in Mumbai, where the family lived in a small room. His father was a stock broker, from whom Damani got his initial understanding of the market from home. He started studying commerce from Mumbai University, but had to leave his studies due to family circumstances and after the death of his father. After this he took over the brokerage business of the family and from here the process of understanding the depth of the stock market began.

In the 1980s, Damani moved beyond brokerage and started investing on his own. Initially he was into trading, but with time he realized the power of long-term investing. Learning from the ups and downs of the market, he made patience and discipline his strategy. During the Harshad Mehta scam era, when many investors were facing losses, Damani took timely decisions through short selling. This made him known as a calm, but very accurate strategy investor.
