Parliament Winter Session LIVE: The fourth day of the winter session of Parliament will start from 11 am. After two days of heated debate and uproar, the situation returned to normal in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Amidst the opposition’s protest over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, it was agreed on the third day that a detailed discussion would be held on Vande Mataram and electoral reforms next week. Question Hour went on without any interruption on Wednesday. In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia gave clarification regarding Sanchar Sathi app and said that spying is not possible through this app. He also said that based on public opinion, the government is ready to change the requirement of pre-installing the app in the phone. Scindia said that with the help of this app, so far 26 lakh stolen mobile phones have been detected and many fraud cases have been stopped. On the other hand, differences between the opposition parties have also started coming to the fore. Trinamool Congress (TMC) has indicated that it may stay away from alliance meetings.
Serious concern was expressed in the Parliament over the deteriorating air quality of the National Capital Region of Delhi. DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson described Delhi as a gas chamber and said that in such a situation it is not right to organize the winter session in Delhi. Wilson said, ‘Delhi will not see air like WHO’s safe standards even for a single day in 2025. Pollution has now become not just a legal matter but a national emergency. People of Delhi are losing up to eight years of life expectancy due to pollution. He refused to consider stubble burning as the only reason and said that the biggest reason is the smoke coming out of vehicles. He termed the trend of running all the work in the country from Delhi as over-centralization.
raised questions
The DMK MP raised the question whether the winter session is necessary in times of heavy smog. He said that constitutional work can be completed in other sessions. Instead of Delhi, work should be distributed among different cities. Regional benches of the Supreme Court should be created in Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata. The burden of ministries and statutory bodies should be distributed among other states of the country so that Delhi can get relief. A slight improvement in air quality was seen on Thursday 4 December, but the situation of air pollution is still very bad in the National Capital. Its impact is also on health.
