Hertfordshire PoliceSerial rapist and former Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick has been found guilty of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl and her former partner.
The 50-year-old man, who has already been sentenced to life in prison, has been found guilty of sexually abusing the girl in the late 1990s and raping her during a relationship more than 20 years later.
Jurors at the Old Bailey found him guilty of nine offenses and he will be sentenced on Thursday.
Carrick, from Stevenage, is already serving a minimum sentence of 32 years in prison, having admitted 71 offenses of sexual violence committed over a period of 17 years.
Carrick, dressed in a suit and tie, was joined in the dock by four correctional officers.
He shook his head repeatedly in the dock as the verdicts were read.
The jury deliberated for five hours before unanimously finding him guilty of the following crimes:
- Five counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16 between April 1989 and August 1990
- Two counts of rape against a woman, one between December 2014 and April 2016 and then between January and December 2019.
- Sexual assault against the same woman between January and December 2019
- Coercive and controlling behavior in relation to the same woman between 2016 and 2019

Barrister Shilpa Shah, who led both Crown Prosecution Service prosecutions against Carrick, issued a statement on the latest court case.
“It was clear from the compelling testimonies given by these women that they had endured relentless abuse without consent,” he said.
“One victim was a girl when she was indecently assaulted and another was sexually abused by him while he was serving as a senior police officer.
“These factors made it vital to prosecute him a second time, not only because of the seriousness of the crimes and the public interest arising from the fact that he was a police officer when he committed some of them, but also to show the full extent of his crimes which spanned decades.”
written confession
Hertfordshire Police praised the victims for their bravery and urged everyone else to come forward.
During the trial, jurors heard how Carrick abused a girl for about 18 months before she told her mother what was happening.
Carrick confessed to that abuse in a letter recovered from his medical records and signed “Dave.”
The court also heard how the other victim had been in a “toxic relationship” in which she had been repeatedly raped.
A police interview with that woman was played in court where she described how Carrick had strangled her, insulted her and kicked her out of the house.
She said their relationship was “quite traumatic; I wish I had never met him.”
Carrick refused to give evidence at the current Old Bailey trial, but denied the new charges, while he admitted the previous charges during court appearances in 2022 and 2023.
Prosecutor Tom Little KC told the jury his silence in the dock was “deafening”.
Despite her written confession, Carrick dismissed the new allegations of child abuse, claiming the girl was a liar.
Regarding his ex-partner, he had stated during an interview in Full Sutton prison that the sex had been consensual and accused her of being motivated by the MeToo movement.
The sentencing hearing will begin Thursday morning.
