Gumla: To prevent increasing road accidents in Gumla, the District Transport Department launched an intensive vehicle checking campaign in the entire district. The campaign was led by District Transport Officer (DTO) Gyan Shankar Jaiswal. The administration appeared serious about road safety. The team started checking vehicles at many major places in the city without prior notice. Besides taking action, fine was also imposed.
Strict action on school buses, 60 thousand fine
Giving priority to the safety of children, the team did special checking of school buses in the morning. Many rules were found ignored in the campaign conducted near AG Church School and Solitaire Academy School. As a result, a huge fine of ₹60,000 was imposed on AG Church School buses. The DTO clearly said that any lapse related to the safety of children will not be tolerated.
Action on cargo and passenger vehicles, recovery of Rs 2.20 lakh
After checking the school buses, the team turned to the goods and passenger vehicles running in the city. During the campaign, serious violations like overloading, operation without permit, illegal lights, invalid driving license, lack of insurance and PUC came to light. A fine of ₹ 2,20,000 was imposed on them. Meanwhile, a passenger bus named Shailendra was seized after it was found running without a valid permit. In this way, a total fine of approximately Rs 3 lakh was collected.
Focus on trucks loaded with bauxite
The investigation team specifically examined trucks carrying bauxite. In most of which overloading was found. DTO said that overloading is the main cause of accidents along with breaking of roads, hence strict action will continue on this.
Action on two wheelers also
Two-wheelers were also checked as part of the routine check. Challans were issued on the spot for violations like without helmet, triple riding, driving in the wrong direction. Drivers were also made aware of road safety rules.
Petrol pump was also investigated
During the campaign, a surprise check was also conducted at a petrol pump located on Ghaghra-Devaki Road. The team checked the availability of essential facilities like free air, clean toilets and fire extinguishers. Lack of pollution centers was found at many places, on which instructions were given for necessary action.
The goal is not revenue, but survival: DTO
DTO Gyan Shankar Jaiswal said that the aim of the administration is not just to collect fines but to ensure road safety. He warned that such campaigns will continue irregularly in the district.
