Strong waves suddenly entered a sea pool on the island of Tenerife in Spain and swept five people into the sea. Four died and one is still missing.
spain Some people who had gone to visit a famous sea pool on the island of Teneriffe got hit by the sudden force of the strong sea. So far four people have died in this accident and one person is still not traceable. Local agencies are continuously running search operations.
On Sunday, rescue teams recovered the bodies of three people – a 35-year-old man, a 55-year-old woman and another man, whose identity was not made public. The fourth victim was a woman, who was saved by giving CPR, but while being taken to the hospital, her condition deteriorated and she died on Monday.
Among those killed, two were citizens of Romania and two came from Slovakia. Rest of the details have not been released yet.
The place where the incident took place—Isla Congreho—is a very popular tourist spot near Los Gigantes. One side of this pool, surrounded by volcanic rocks, is separated from the sea by just a wall. When the weather is bad and the sea is rough, the waves cross this wall very easily.
According to local media, rough sea warning was already in force at the time of the accident. Even this pool was closed from 3rd December. But many people ignored the warnings and the barricades installed and still went into the water.
Residents of the area say that once someone gets caught in the waves, it is very difficult to get back up because of the slippery rocks below. Explaining this, a local person said – The sea here may look calm from outside, but it is very difficult to set foot on the rocks below, hence the danger increases much more.
City Mayor Emilio Navarro expressed condolences to the families of the dead and said rescue teams were continuing to search for the missing. He also appealed that people should take the weather alerts and boards put up by the administration seriously, because they are put up only for the safety of the people.
