Madvi Hidma Encounter Protest in Delhi: Police arrested 15 people for protesting at India Gate, against whom a case has been registered under various sections of BNS. These include serious allegations like misbehavior with women policemen, blocking the way, attacking police and violating orders. Some accused refused to reveal their identity. Delhi Police has detained 15 protesters for raising provocative slogans like ‘Kitne Hidma Maroge, Har Ghar Se Hidma Niklega’ and attacking the police during the demonstration around India Gate and Duty Path. In this case, FIR has been registered under several serious sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) in Duty Path and Sansad Marg police stations. Madvi Hidma was recently killed by security forces during an operation against Naxalism. These students were protesting against Madvi Hidma encounter under the guise of pollution protest in Delhi.

According to police sources, many of the detained protesters refused to reveal their identities and claimed that they would give their information only to the court. Sources also said that while being detained, some protesters also tried to bite the police team, which worsened the situation. In the initial investigation, it is being said that they are likely to be associated with “Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena”.

What is the biggest punishment?
If we look at the provisions of the biggest punishment in these sections, then BNS 121(A) (causing grievous hurt to a public servant) and BNS 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) are the harshest. Under BNS 121(A), causing grievous hurt to a public servant can lead to imprisonment of up to 3 years. However, if the criminal conspiracy (BNS 61(2)) in this case is linked to an offense punishable by seven years or more, the person committing the conspiracy may also be sentenced to the maximum punishment prescribed for that offence. The arrested accused are being produced in Patiala House Court of Delhi today, in view of which security arrangements have been tightened inside and outside the court premises.
