RBI said in a statement that the Finance Minister has addressed the 587th meeting of the RBI Central Board. In this meeting, the Finance Minister has told the members about the important initiatives and priorities of the government in the budget.

Many suggestions given
Appreciating the Finance Minister on the budget, the board members have made several suggestions for the government’s consideration. The Central Board of Directors also reviewed the current economic situation in its first meeting after the presentation of the budget of 2021-22. The statement said that the board in its meeting reviewed the current economic situation, global and domestic challenges and various areas of operation of the Reserve Bank, including ways to strengthen the complaints panel in banks.

The meeting held on Tuesday was chaired by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. Nominee Directors of the Government ‘Financial Services Secretary Debashish Panda and Economic Affairs Secretary Tarun Bajaj’ also attended the Board. Apart from Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur, Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey and Secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Tuhin Kant Pandey were also present.

Let us tell you that on February 1, Sitharaman presented the country’s budget, in which the fiscal deficit was estimated to be 6.8 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). Apart from this, a target has been set to bring this deficit to 4.5 per cent in the financial year ended March 2026.
