Dasgupta died in Kolkata in the early hours of Thursday
The film director Buddhadeb Dasgupta was 77 years old. He is survived by his wife and two daughters from his first marriage. Family members told that the National Award winning director was suffering from kidney ailment for a long time.
Kolkata. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the death of eminent film director Buddhadeb Dasgupta and said his diverse works touched the hearts of all sections of the society. Let us inform that Dasgupta died in Kolkata in the early hours of Thursday. He was 77 years old. The National Award winning director was suffering from kidney ailment for a long time. He had regular dialysis twice every week.
Modi tweeted, “Saddened by the demise of Buddhadev Dasgupta. His diverse works touched the hearts of all sections of the society. He was also a famous thinker and poet. My condolences to his family members and loved ones in this hour of grief.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also tweeted and paid tribute to Buddhadeb Dasgupta. He wrote- ‘Saddened by the demise of eminent filmmaker Buddhadev Dasgupta. Through his work, he made the language of cinema unique. His death is a big loss to the film community. Condolences to his family, colleagues and fans.

Buddhadeb Dasgupta has received 5 National Awards. ‘Bagh Bahadur’, ‘Lal Darga’, ‘Kaalpurush’ are important films of his life. Buddhadeb Dasgupta has also worked with Mithun Chakraborty. Mithun was seen in his film ‘Tahdar Katha’.
