The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of the voter list being conducted by the Election Commission in West Bengal has now become a topic of discussion due to mysterious figures. The investigation of the voter list of 2002 has revealed such shocking facts which are raising questions on the credibility of the electoral process.
Internal analysis of the Election Commission has found serious discrepancies in the family details of lakhs of voters, especially the information related to father, mother and grandfather. This data not only points to technical glitches, but also raises the possibility of wrong or suspicious entries on a large scale.
What mistake was found in 85 lakh voters?
The investigation conducted under SIR revealed that errors were found in the names of fathers of about 85 lakh voters registered in the state’s 2002 voter list. In these cases, the names are either incorrect, incomplete, or do not match the family relationships. Officials believe such a large number of errors point to problems beyond simple typing mistakes.
How come parents have the same name?
The most surprising figure is that in the records of about 13.5 lakh voters, the name of the same person is recorded in both the father and mother columns. That is, in the same family, the name which is recorded as father for one member is shown as mother for the other member. This raises the question whether this is an error during data migration or a deliberate wrong entry.
How is there such a small age difference between father and son?
During SIR, 11,95,230 such cases have also come to light, where the age of the father has been shown to be just 15 years or less than that of the son. From biological and social point of view this is considered almost impossible. Experts say age discrepancies on such a large scale reflect serious flaws in the process of preparing and updating the voter list.
Apart from this, six or more children of a person have been found registered in 24,21,133 cases. Although some exceptions may be possible, such records in the number of lakhs are considered unusual. According to Election Commission sources, this data indicates that the identity of the same person may have been used for multiple voters, or there may have been massive irregularities in the entry of family members.
How can he become a grandfather at such a young age?
Another shocking fact has emerged in data analysis. In the records of 3,29,152 voters, the grandfather’s age is less than 40 years more than the grandson’s. This is also highly unnatural by social standards and points to serious mistakes in generational relationships in the voter list.
Officials associated with the Election Commission say that the purpose of the SIR campaign is to make the voter list pure and reliable by catching such discrepancies. The Commission claims that this process is not being done against any political party or individual, but to strengthen the democratic process.
Experts believe that if these anomalies are not corrected in time, it will not only raise questions on the electoral process but will also affect the credibility of the voter list. These figures revealed during SIR indicate that the process of digitization, update and verification of voter data needs to be made more robust and transparent.
