Lakhimpur Kheri: As winter approaches, farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri traditionally turn to pea cultivation. Peas are considered to be the main Rabi crop giving high profits at low cost. But since the recent increase in the price of seeds, many farmers have started moving away from sowing. In such a situation, giving relief to the farmers, the Agriculture Department has started the facility of 50% subsidy on pea seeds.
Why is pea cultivation the first choice of farmers?
The soil and climate of Lakhimpur Kheri is considered very favorable for pea cultivation. This is the reason why farmers here sow peas on a large scale every year.
benefits of peas: Good yield at low cost, stable demand in the market throughout the season, reasonable profit on sale of crop,
Helping in increasing soil fertility, due to these benefits peas have remained a profitable crop for farmers for years.
Expensive seeds increase concern
In recent years, the prices of pea seeds were continuously increasing. Due to the cost of the seed, many farmers started retreating from its sowing. Reasons for seeds becoming expensive: Financial burden on small and marginal farmers, reduction in sowing area, danger of not being able to sow the crop on time, considering the problems of the farmers, the Agriculture Department has taken a big step this time.
Pea seeds will be available at 50% subsidy
The Agriculture Department has announced that pea seeds will be given to farmers at 50% subsidy. This will provide financial relief to the farmers and they will be able to devote more area to sowing. Government agricultural seed store in-charge Rajneesh Kumar said that the seed is available at the rate of Rs 74 per kg, farmers will get this seed at half the price, the target is limited, hence early application is necessary, this subsidy will reduce the burden of farmers and will help them in doing profitable farming. Seeds will be available through Aadhaar card. To make the seed distribution process transparent and safe, it has been made mandatory for farmers to give their Aadhaar number.
The process is as follows:
Farmers will go to the agriculture center and register their Aadhaar number, after verification the seeds will be given, there will be no confusion or duplication, this process has been implemented to provide real benefits to the farmers.
Selection on ‘first come, first served’ basis
Seeds are available in limited quantities. Therefore, the Agriculture Department has made it clear that the benefits of the scheme will be given on ‘first come, first serve’ basis.
