New Delhi: China’s overall population has registered a decline for the first time in the last six decades. The National Bureau of Statistics reported that there were 850,000 fewer people in China at the end of 2022 than in the previous year. The main factors for the decline in population are the increasing number of elderly people and the decline in the birth rate. China is believed to have last recorded a population decline during the Great Leap Forward in the late 1950s, when Mao Zedong’s devastating campaign for collective farming and industrialization began. Due to this campaign, there was a large scale famine in China, in which lakhs of people were killed.

India will be the most populous country
According to the United Nations report-2020, India is likely to be the world’s most populous country this year, leaving behind China. According to the report, India’s population is 1.412 billion in 2022 as compared to China’s 1.426 billion. It is estimated that in 2050 India’s population will be 1.668 billion, which will be 1.317 billion more than the current population of China at that time.

This year’s average age for different countries
A government report gave the average age of people of different countries for this year, in which the average age of India was 28.7 years, while for China it was 38.4 and for Japan it was 48.6 years. According to UNFPA estimates, 68 per cent of India’s population is in the age group of 15-64 years while only 7 per cent of the population is above 65 years of age. At the same time, UN has told that 27% of India’s population is between 15-29 years. At the same time, India has the largest population of adolescents (10-19 years) in the world, whose population is 253 million.

India to be the country with the youngest population by 2030.

UNFPA has told in its report that till 2030, India will remain the country with the highest youth population, according to the report, till 2025, India will experience a rise / increase in ‘youth population’ but later it will decline. At the same time, India, which once recorded the highest population rate in the world, is now registering a decline in the rate. Since 2011, India’s annual population growth has averaged 1.2%, compared to 1.7% in the previous 10 years. .

Decline in birth rate in last 10 years

According to a government report released last month, India’s total fertility rate (TFR) – children per woman – has fallen to 2, the latest assessment for 2019-2021, from 3.4 in 1992-93. It is being estimated that the average temperature should remain around 2.1 for the reproduction of the population.
