Some things are eaten excessively during winter in Mumbai. The first thing in this list is Punjabi Gajak, it is made by mixing sesame seeds and jaggery. Gond Pak, also known as Gundar Pal, is a traditional and extremely nutritious Gujarati sweet, eaten mainly during the winter months. Its main ingredient is gum, which is a natural resin extracted from the bark of the acacia tree and swells when fried in ghee. This sweet is usually made from jaggery, rich dry fruits, wheat flour, dry ginger and gum powder. It is sold for ₹ 1200 per kg during cold season.
Addiya Pak is a nutritious sweet, which is made at the beginning of cold season to provide energy to households and keep the body warm from inside. Made primarily from coarsely ground urad dal flour, pure ghee and some sweet substance like jaggery or sugar, this sweet is enriched with a mixture of warm spices (like ginger, cardamom and nutmeg) and various dry fruits and gum. Each ingredient has been specially selected for its Ayurvedic benefits, it sells for ₹1200 per kg during the cold season.

Khambhat Special Kaju Halwa is a traditional and very popular sweet of Khambhat city of Gujarat state. It is prepared by a unique and age-old method, in which coarsely ground wheat flour (daliya), milk, pure ghee, sugar and gum are cooked. This process often involves curdling the milk to achieve a specific consistency and then caramelizing the sugar to give it a golden brown colour, selling for ₹400 per kg during the cold season.
Almond Caramel Dessert is a crunchy dessert usually made by coating roasted almonds in thick, buttery caramel. This popular sweet offers a delightful blend of the rich flavor and satisfying sweetness of almonds. This sweet gives strength and also keeps the body warm from inside in cold weather. To make it more attractive, it is decorated with pistachio pieces and almonds dipped in caramel, it is the most expensive sweet; In winter it is sold for ₹ 1600 per kg.
It is not that only sweets are eaten in winter, there are many such dishes which are in high demand during winter. One of these is Umbadiyu, often called “Gujarati Barbecue”. This seasonal dish is made with a mixture of local winter vegetables, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, purple yam and surti papdi. The vegetables are marinated in a paste of green garlic, chilli and ginger, and then placed layer by layer in the pot. It is sold for ₹ 800 per kg during cold season.
Undhiyu is a Surti dish that comes from Surat in Gujarat. Undhiyu is a combination of all winter vegetables with ingredients like muthiya, namak bedhne and fried fenugreek pakoda. It is made by frying all the vegetables and mixing them with Gujarati style spices. It is especially eaten with puri or roti.
