Terror of Elephants: These days, the terror of elephants is continuously increasing in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Elephants from Nepal are now continuously reaching the residential areas through the forests of Dudhwa National Park, due to which they are destroying the crops of the farmers. In such a situation, the farmers are very worried as the herd of elephants is continuously causing destruction.
Lakhimpur Kheri: These days, elephant terror is increasing rapidly in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Wild elephants coming from Nepal are continuously crossing Dudhwa National Park and reaching villages and farms. Due to this, farmers’ crops are being destroyed and losses worth lakhs of rupees are being incurred. On the other hand, as soon as Dudhwa National Park opens, tourists from India and abroad are seeing the exciting sight of wildlife.
Elephants coming from Nepal move towards villages
These days, herds of wild elephants are causing trouble in many areas of Lakhimpur Kheri. A large group of 30 to 35 elephants coming from Nepal is passing through the forests of Dudhwa National Park and reaching residential areas and fields. At night this group enters the villages and destroys the crops. Farmers say that as soon as the elephants reach the sugarcane. Paddy and other crops get ruined within minutes. Farmers are continuously suffering losses and are in fear about their safety.
Elephant video went viral on social media
After the opening of Dudhwa National Park, a large number of tourists from India and abroad are coming to see the wildlife. Meanwhile, a video has gone viral rapidly on social media. In this, a huge elephant is seen breaking the wire fencing installed by the forest department. When the tourists who went on jungle safari saw the elephant in front of them, they were thrilled. He made a video of it and shared it on social media. It is clearly visible in the video that the elephant easily breaks the fencing and comes out without any fear.
Pressure on Nepali elephants increases in winter
The number of Nepali elephants increases during the winter season in the forests of Dudhwa National Park. During winter, they come towards India through the forests of Nepal. Here the dense sugarcane crop and availability of water attract them. Farmers suffer the most loss due to these elephants coming towards the villages. Sugarcane is considered the favorite food of elephants. A single herd devours an entire field within a few hours.
Forest department is continuously warning
In view of the ever-increasing danger, the Forest Department is advising villagers to remain alert. By running an awareness campaign, people are being appealed not to go close to elephants and maintain distance from the fields at night. Sanjay Vishwas, DFO of Dudhwa National Park, said that this time a herd of about 30 to 35 elephants has come to the Indian border. This group is continuously reaching the fields and damaging the crops. He said that compensation will be provided to the farmers whose crops have been damaged.
