In the direction of strengthening animal husbandry and increasing the income of farmers in Chitrakoot district of UP, the Animal Department is continuously coming up with new schemes. In this context, a scheme has now been started for the farmers of the district, which will not only keep the animals healthy but will also become a source of additional income. Under this scheme, farmers are being encouraged to cultivate Napier grass, in which financial help and roots of the grass will be made available to the farmers by the department.
This grass will be available throughout the year
Let us tell you that in Chitrakoot also a large number of farmers are involved in animal husbandry, but being a Patha area, they often have to buy expensive fodder due to lack of green fodder. Keeping this in view, the Animal Department has started the Napier Grass Scheme and this grass is rich in nutrients and is considered very beneficial for animals. The special thing is that Napier grass is perennial. That means, once applied, it remains available throughout the year. This grass is not only useful for domestic animals, but farmers can also earn additional income by supplying it in cow sheds. There is always a need for green fodder in the cow sheds operated in the district, in such a situation, Napier grass can become a permanent source of income for the farmers.
Amount of Rs 4 thousand for planting grass
Chief Veterinary Officer Karvi Suresh Kumar Pandey informed Local 18 that the biggest feature of Napier grass is that after planting it once, cutting can be done continuously for 3 to 4 years. This grass is available for 12 months and is very beneficial for milk-yielding animals. Keeping this in mind, the district has currently been given a target of 5 farmers, who will be selected through a committee. The selected farmers will be given financial assistance of Rs 4,000 from the Animal Department, along with 100 roots of Napier grass will also be provided.
200 roots will have to be returned
In further information, he said that under the scheme, a provision has also been made that after one year, the farmers will return 200 roots to the department instead of 100 roots, so that other farmers can also be given the benefit of this scheme. To apply for the scheme, farmers will have to take a form from the veterinary hospital. It will be mandatory to submit a copy of bank passbook, Aadhar card and Khatauni along with the application. The Animal Department has set the last date for this as one week.
