Mirzapur News: Due to increase in modern facilities at Mirzapur Railway Station, the earnings of porters have almost ended. Now they are not getting work due to automatic stairs, lifts and trolley bags. The porters are demanding employment, Group-D jobs and pension for the elderly from the government.
Mirzapur : There is a difference between earlier and now times. Earlier everyone used to remember Coolie. We did not have time to sit. There was good earning during the day. However, now there is a crisis of making ends meet. Earning is over. The reason is the increase in modern facilities. There is an escalator at the station. There is a lift. Now no one remembers. This is what the porters of Mirzapur station have to say. Those who are hopeful that even if there is employment, the government will do something for them. In the changing times, everything is becoming state-of-the-art. In such a situation, while there is an advantage, there is a disadvantage on the other side. The porters’ earnings at the station have now come to an end. Maybe someone new might want to join this work now.
Bal Mukund, a porter present at Mirzapur station, told Local 18 that ever since escalators, lifts and wheels for suitcases and bags started arriving at the station. Since then the income has ended. Now vehicles are coming till near the gate. They come from it and take it away. We remain standing. We don’t get anything. 100 to 50 rupees are available. Just making arrangements for my own food. Even the family is not able to be looked after. We remain sad. We demand from the government that the youth should be given Group D jobs and the elderly should be given pension.
Respect for hard work, not getting money
Ramesh said that hard work is respected, but there is no money. The trolley bag has arrived. Other facilities are available. There is no one to ask us. We ask people about trains and toilets. Pappu Yadav told that now the earning has ended. Arrangements have been made at the station and inflation has also increased. That’s why no one remembers us. We the people have been neglected. The government knows everything, but is not paying attention. If you pay attention, the work will be done.
