Chandigarh: Police has taken a big step to strengthen road safety in Haryana. Now special teams will be deployed at toll plazas to catch those who drink and drive on the road. Policemen will conduct spot checks with alco-sensors and e-challan machines and immediate action will be taken against those breaking the rules. Keeping in mind the winter and foggy season, the police has appealed to the people to be alert and follow the traffic rules.
Special checking campaign started at toll plazas
On the instructions of Haryana DGP OP Singh, special police teams will be deployed at all the major toll plazas of the state from 6 pm to 10 pm. These teams will investigate on the spot with the help of alco-sensor. If caught driving under the influence, an e-challan will be immediately issued against the driver and legal action will be taken. The aim of this step is to reduce road accidents caused by drunk driving. The major causes of accidents in Haryana are considered to be speeding, overtaking and driving under the influence of alcohol. Police say that this campaign is important towards giving priority to road safety.
Danger increasing in fog, police issued advisory
Due to increase in fog in winter, roads become slippery and visibility reduces considerably. In such a situation, the risk of accidents increases manifold. Haryana Police has issued a detailed advisory for citizens, in which drivers have been appealed to take special caution.
The main precautions are as follows
Drive slowly. Use fog lights and dippers. Avoid parking your vehicle on the roadside. Use reflective tape and fluorescent markings. Do not overtake in fog. Do not drive on the wrong side at all. Do not drink and drive. Pay special attention to pedestrians and cyclists.
Safety of drivers, priority of police
During foggy weather, many times the vehicle in front becomes suddenly visible, which increases the possibility of an accident. Therefore, the police has appealed to the citizens to maintain a safe distance and drive at a controlled speed. Apart from this, instructions have also been given to safely cover vehicles carrying heavy and protruding goods. It is also said to be very important to check the weather conditions before travelling. If visibility is very low, it is advised to postpone the journey.
Haryana Police 24×7 alert
Police say that road safety is a shared responsibility not only of them but also of the general public. Citizens should be careful and follow the rules so that accidents can be prevented. Haryana Police is working day and night for the safety of people and this campaign is expected to bring a major reduction in road accidents.
