Tau Cultivation: Tau is cultivated on a large scale in Mainpat area of Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. Usually this crop proves to be a profitable deal for the farmers, but this year the situation is completely different. Along with blight disease, severe attack of aphid is being seen on Tau crop. In such a situation, agricultural experts say that if timely control is not taken, the loss may increase further. He has advised the farmers to adopt some easy measures and home remedies to prevent this problem, so that the crop can be saved from further damage, see this report…
Different names, but same crop
Agriculture expert Sanjay Yadav told Local 18 that Tau crop is known by different names in different areas. At some places it is called bugbeed, at other places it is called kuttu, while in the local language it is known as tau. It is cultivated on a large scale in Mainpat area, where farmers grow this crop in about 2000 hectares of area.
Height and yield no longer the same as before
According to Sanjay Yadav, compared to earlier, there is a continuous decline in both the height and production of Tau crop. Plants are no longer able to grow as strong and tall as they used to be, which is having a direct impact on the yield.
Lack of organic fertilizer in soil is the biggest reason
Agriculture expert said that due to less use of organic fertilizers in the fields, the amount of carbon in the soil is decreasing. Due to this the C-N ratio is deteriorating. Farmers are using only NPK fertilizer every year, whereas the soil also needs micro nutrients, which are not being fulfilled now.
Compost and green manure will improve soil health
The agricultural expert advised the farmers to apply compost, vermicompost, green manure and rotted straw and stalks of the crop in the fields. This will provide essential nutrients to the soil, increase fertility and restore the strength of the crop.
Cold, frost and water are also becoming obstacles
Frost during cold weather damages the Tau crop. In such a situation, using sulfur increases the crop’s ability to tolerate cold. At the same time, due to excessive filling of water in the field at the time of sowing, the seeds rot, which affects the germination and increases the risk of fungal diseases.
Blight disease increased due to strong wind and clouds
According to experts, this year due to strong wind and continuous cloudy sky, the flowers in the Tau crop dried up, due to which there was an outbreak of blight disease. Due to blight, flowers wither prematurely and the crop does not mature completely.
How to control blight disease
Agricultural experts said that fungicides like Mancozeb or Carbendazim should be sprayed as soon as symptoms of blight are seen. In this disease, the leaves of the plants start withering and grains are not formed properly, due to which there is a huge decline in production.
Danger of aphid aphid also increased
In continuous cloudy conditions, infestation of aphids has also been seen at many places. Spraying of Imidacloprid drug has been said to be effective for its control.
Production reduced from 10-15 quintals to 3-4 quintals.
Sanjay Yadav told that earlier farmers used to earn good profits from Tau cultivation. Normal production was 10 quintals per hectare and if there was a good crop it reached 15 quintals. But now the production has reduced to just 3-4 quintals per hectare.
The balance is disturbed by the same crop continuously.
According to agricultural experts, this situation has arisen due to continuous cultivation of the same crop and soil not getting all types of nutrients. He appealed to the farmers to use more organic fertilizers, adopt crop rotation and do balanced nutrition management, so that the tau crop becomes strong again, disease resistance increases and production can be improved.
