UPI Payment: The world is moving rapidly towards digitalization. As the world is progressing, the ways of working are changing. Now look at the method of payment itself, earlier people used to carry cash with them because this was the only means of transaction. Now times have changed, now payment is done instantly with just one click on the phone. People still keep cash, but UPI (Unified Payment Interface) is being used more now.
UPI payment without internet
However, being based on internet access, sometimes it becomes difficult to make online payment due to poor network, lack of mobile data or using a basic phone. To solve this problem, National Payments Corporation of India has started UPI payment offline through USSD-based service. This option works without internet and has simple text menus that anyone can follow. By simply dialing a short code from your registered mobile number, you can send money even in low network areas.
What is offline UPI payment?
Offline UPI payment is a feature that allows users to conduct UPI transactions without any internet access or WiFi. It works through a USSD service, which can be accessed by dialing *99# from any mobile number linked to the bank account. To start using offline UPI payment, you have to activate it on your registered mobile number. For this follow these steps-
- First of all dial *99# from your phone.
- Select your preferred language.
- Enter the IFSC code of your bank.
- Select the bank account you want to link.
- Enter the last six digits of your debit card.
- Enter debit card expiry date.
- After verification, offline UPI payment will be enabled.
- Once activated, you can use this USSD-based service anytime without internet access.
How to make offline UPI payment?
After activation, it is easy to send money through offline UPI payment-
- Dial *99# from your registered mobile number.
- Select option ‘1’ to send money.
- Enter the bank account details along with the recipient’s UPI ID, mobile number, or IFSC.
- Enter amount (up to Rs 5,000).
- Enter your UPI PIN to complete the payment.
- The transaction will be processed instantly using the USSD system.
