Dodka Cultivation In Winter: Dodka is emerging as a profitable crop for Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, but for this it is necessary for the farmers to follow scientific methods and advice of experts. Pest infestation is a common problem in dodka cultivation, hence timely use of home remedies and control measures is very important. If farmers are cautious at the right time, they can avoid losses and earn good income. Agricultural experts have given many effective tips and tricks for the cultivation of Dodka. Let’s see this report…
Land preparation is the first and most important step in production.
Agriculture expert Ganga Ram told Local 18 that Dodka is a creeper vegetable, whose footing directly depends on the spread of the creeper. Therefore, before starting farming, it is very important to make the soil friable by deep plowing of the field. He told that if drip irrigation is not available then Thala system is most suitable during summer season. By preparing a tray and mixing NPK, rotted cow dung manure or vermi compost in it and sowing the seeds, the initial growth of the plants becomes stronger.
Easy to prepare seedlings in winter
Agricultural experts said that late germination of seeds in the winter season troubles the farmers. In such a situation, the plug type seedling unit of Ambikapur Garden Center is proving helpful for the farmers. The expert told that here plants can be easily prepared by giving seeds in temperature controlled machines. After about a month of sowing the seeds, the plants are completely ready and its maintenance fee is kept at only ₹ 1 per plant.
Advanced variety Vani becomes first choice of farmers
According to Ganga Ram, if we talk about advanced producing variety of Dodka, a large number of farmers are adopting the ‘Vani’ variety of Pinkrock Company. This variety is known for high production and better quality.
Farming possible in all three seasons
Ganga Ram told that dodka can be cultivated in all three seasons, Kharif, Rabi and summer. Nowadays, due to hybrid seeds available in the market, farmers are able to cultivate it for 12 months. Due to the high market price of Dodka in off-season, farmers are earning well.
Pest and Disease Management
According to agricultural experts, at the time of spreading of creeper, many types of sucking insects damage the leaves, due to which the growth stops. To prevent this, spraying 2.5 ml of chlorpheniphos or amidachloropeat per liter of water is considered effective. The expert advised that if farmers want to adopt indigenous methods, they can spray Panchgavya prepared from jaggery, rotten cow dung and cow urine, but keep in mind that first try indigenous methods and only if control is not achieved then use chemical medicines, because the use of both the methods together can increase the tolerance of pests.
