Airport Hacks: Do your bags suddenly become overweight after reaching the airport counter? Many times it happens that you stand in the queue for hours and as soon as you reach the check-in counter, the staff says – “Sir/Ma’am, your bag is 2-3 kg more!” When you are told this at the airport, you might be thinking that at home the weight seemed less and now how has it increased. On top of this, extra charges will also have to be paid for this. But YouTuber Aero Shiva has revealed a trick in his Travel Meet Easy series that will help you avoid any baggage related problems.
To solve the problem of overweight baggage, he has told a secret which 99 percent people do not know. In Air India, the carry-on bag i.e. the bag that you carry with you in the cabin in the flight, its weight is only free up to 7 kg. Along with this, you can also carry a small personal item, like a laptop bag, handbag or ladies purse. But if you are traveling in first class or business class then there is more relaxation for you – there you can carry carry-on bag up to 10 kg.
What to do if the bag is overweight?
Apart from this, the size of the bag is also fixed, otherwise there may be a problem at the counter. In such a situation, the airlines give only two options, that is, either you have to pay extra money, or you have to lose weight. Meaning of giving money? Suppose you are 2 kg overweight, then Rs 500-1000 per kg may be charged, depending on the length of the flight.
Short flights from Delhi to Mumbai cost less, but international flights from Delhi to Dubai or Bangkok cost thousands of rupees. Now if we tell you how to lose weight, you can take out some clothes and give it to any of your family members. But doing all this at the airport? That too in the crowd? Most people get upset just thinking about this. Sometimes people lose weight just by wearing a jacket or sweater. But all this may seem like a lot of hassle. Especially if you are traveling alone or with family.
Now here comes the third and best option, which most people do not know about. Yes, you can send your extra luggage at the airport itself through courier service through India Post. Courier counters are available at big airports like Delhi’s IGI, Mumbai’s CSMIA, Bengaluru’s KIA or Chennai’s MAA. Companies like DTDC, Blue Dart or FedEx have small stalls. This service is 30-50% cheaper than the extra baggage charges of the airline. For example, a 5 kg packet can be sent from Mumbai to Delhi through courier for Rs 300-500, whereas the airlines will charge Rs 1000.
How to courier your goods?
After finding out how many kilos the overweight is at the check-in counter, immediately go to the nearest courier counter. Now pack your stuff and put it in whatever box or bag they give you. Then write your address and make the payment. Your luggage will reach your home within the next few days. But yes, this hack is useful only when the overweight is 5-10 kg. If it is only 1-2 kg then take off the jacket or shift it in the handbag. If there is a lot of overage, it would be best to courier.
