If you cover the vessel with a good lid, then the steam inside does not go out and the food remains hot for a long time. If you want, wrap a cotton cloth or handkerchief over the lid. This acts as additional insulation.
Use of thermal or steel utensils is also very beneficial in winter. Steel utensils with thick bottom retain heat for a long time. Use of hot water is also a desi jugaad. Fill a large vessel or tray with hot water and place the food utensils in it. It acts like a water bath and maintains the heat of the food. This method is especially useful when the gas is switched off and electricity is not available. Due to this the food does not remain cold for long.
The temperature of the kitchen also matters in winter. Try not to keep food in a very cold place. Keeping it near a window or door provides cool breeze and the food gets cooled quickly.
