Many people stop consuming curd in winter, because its nature is considered cold and it can increase phlegm as well as affect digestion. But, some people have the habit of eating curd with food. In such a situation, Ayurvedic doctor Reetu Verma has told that curd acts as a complete food when eaten in the right way and with the right combination. If curd is eaten at the wrong time or in the wrong way, it can increase problems like heaviness, cold and gas in the body. Therefore, by adopting Ayurvedic methods you can enjoy eating curd daily.
Dr. Reetu Verma told that the main way to balance curd is to mix its cold nature with things of hot nature. Direct consumption of curd in winter can cool the body, which slows down the digestion process and can lead to problems like indigestion, acidity and increased phlegm. Therefore, in Ayurveda it is advised to take curd with hot spices. Dr. Verma tells that the easiest, effective and Ayurvedic way to balance the cold effect of curd is to use celery, cumin and rock salt.
Celery, cumin and rock salt, all three substances are hot in nature, due to which the cold effect of curd can be balanced. Their combination makes curd suitable for consumption even in winter and increases the digestive power of the body. Especially celery not only strengthens the digestive power, but it also removes problems like gas, flatulence and constipation. By adding celery to curd, the fat and protein present in it are easily digested. Apart from this, celery provides slight warmth to the body in winter and reduces the chances of increasing phlegm. Therefore, use of celery with curd is considered very beneficial in the winter season.

Cumin is also an ideal addition to curd, as it helps control gas and acidity. When roasted cumin is taken with curd, its digestive capacity increases, and it maintains lightness in the stomach. Cumin is also naturally anti-inflammatory, which reduces stomach irritation and swelling. Due to its warming effect during cold weather, consumption of curd becomes safe and beneficial.
Ayurvedic doctor Reetu Verma told that rock salt helps in maintaining electrolyte balance in the body. It eases digestion and puts less stress on the body than ordinary salt. By adding rock salt to curd, it becomes more light, tasty and helpful in digestion. In winter, rock salt makes the cold nature of curd warm to some extent, due to which it does not have any negative effect on the body.
According to Dr. Ritu Verma, if these Ayurvedic remedies are adopted, consumption of curd can be completely safe and beneficial even in winter. By adding a pinch each of roasted cumin, celery and rock salt to a bowl of curd, curd becomes a winter superfood. If desired, curd can be drunk by lukewarm or by making buttermilk from it.
