Haldi mehndi in islam: Haldi and mehndi rituals are becoming increasingly famous on wedding occasions. These are becoming common in Muslim society also. However, many assumptions related to this are also seen. For example, during these rituals, girls should not go out of the house because evil forces can trouble them, but does this really happen? Let us know the whole truth from the Maulana of Aligarh.
Aligarh. Many types of rituals and beliefs are prevalent in the Muslim society on the occasion of marriage, which also includes the rituals of turmeric and mehndi. Especially about girls, it is believed that they should not go out of the house during these rituals, because it can be affected by jinnat or evil forces. But what is the reality of these beliefs and what does Islam say about it? To know the answers to these questions, Local 18 had a special conversation with Shahi Chief Mufti of Uttar Pradesh Maulana Chaudhary Hussain.
no direct connection with islam
Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain said that the ritual of applying turmeric or henna on the occasion of marriage has no direct connection with Islam. These rituals are mostly part of social traditions, not Islamic teachings. According to Maulana Hussain, a perception has been created in the society that girls should not go out of the house when they are wearing turmeric or mehendi, because it can be affected by jinnat or satanic forces. There is no basis for anything like this in Islam. Neither applying turmeric nor henna attracts any kind of evil powers or jinn.
what is wrong, what is right
According to Maulana, such beliefs are mere superstitions, which have no connection with the Islamic faith. The atmosphere of fear and restriction that is created during these rituals is based on wrong thinking. Islam teaches humans to stay away from illusions and superstitions, and not to create baseless fears. Maulana Hussain said that the society should understand the difference between religious and social traditions and adopt the correct Islamic viewpoint while avoiding such wrong beliefs.
