Diseases and Remedies of Chana Fasal: Chana is the main Rabi crop, it requires less cost and care. However, if care is not taken, some diseases can cause huge losses by ruining the crop. Know their solutions and precautions from experts.
Palamu. Gram is one of the most important Rabi crops of the country, which is grown by farmers on a large scale. This crop, which gives good yield at low cost and less water, plays an important role in increasing the income of farmers. Gram contains high amount of protein, hence its demand always remains in the market. But its cultivation is successful only when farmers pay attention to prevention of crop diseases from the beginning. With the right seeds, right soil and easy treatment, the yield of gram can increase manifold.
disease in gram
One of the most damaging diseases in gram crop is Wilt Disease. Farmers often complain that the crop looks good, but the plants suddenly start drying up at various places in the field. This is the main sign of Ukhatha disease. It is caused by the soil-dwelling fungus Fusarium, which attacks the roots and blocks the passage of water and food to the plant.
Initially some plants appear affected, but if timely measures are not taken, the disease spreads to the entire field and reduces production by 40–60%. Broadly speaking, it causes a lot of harm.
Dr. Pramod Kumar, an agricultural expert from the Regional Research Center Chianki in Palamu district, says that the easiest and most successful way to prevent Ukhatha disease is seed treatment. Before sowing gram, it is necessary for the farmers to mix 2 grams of carbendazim thoroughly per kg of seeds. Sprinkle the seeds with light water and mix the medicine well so that the medicine sticks to the surface of the seeds.
This remedy does not allow the fungus to grow in the seeds or soil and the plant becomes capable of fighting the disease from the very beginning. Apart from this, keep good drainage in the field and do not cultivate gram in the same field continuously. Adopting crop rotation also helps in disease prevention.
Learn organic remedies
There are also easy ways to prevent Ukhatha disease for farmers doing organic farming. Treatment of 5 grams of Trichoderma viride or Pseudomonas fluorescens per kg of seeds before sowing is considered very effective. It protects the roots of the plant by eliminating harmful fungi present in the soil.
Apart from this, use of quinol, neem cake or cow urine solution per acre is helpful in disease control. By applying organic fertilizers and micro-organism based fungicides in the field, the quality of the soil increases and the chances of disease spread are reduced. If these measures are taken then the possibility of loss will be less.
