New Delhi. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar made it clear on Saturday that India operates on its own terms. He said that India’s relations with Russia have been the most stable in the last 70-80 years. He gave a befitting reply to the questions arising on President Putin’s visit. Without naming America, Jaishankar said that no country has the right to interfere in our relations. He says that diplomacy does not mean pleasing others. India keeps its national interest above all else. He also admitted that talks on trade deal with America are ongoing. But India will take the decision without coming under any pressure. He reiterated the point of strategic autonomy. This statement came at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit. Jaishankar also made India’s stand completely clear on relations with Pakistan and China.
Preparation to redefine relations with Russia Jaishankar said that Putin’s visit was to give a new shape to the relations. He said that relations between India and Russia have been the strongest and stable in the world. There were many ups and downs in the world, but this friendship always remained constant. Now both the countries are focusing on economic cooperation. Earlier the economic aspect was a bit weak. Now a joint venture for fertilizer has been agreed upon. This is very important for the farmers of India. India is the second largest fertilizer importer in the world. This supply from Russia will now be more reliable.
India’s tough stance on trade deals and conditions with America. Jaishankar also talked about the trade agreement with America. He acknowledged that the Trump administration’s focus is on trade. But India will not compromise with the interests of its workers and farmers. Jaishankar said that diplomacy does not mean making anyone happy. We talk only to protect our interests. America has imposed heavy tariffs on Indian goods. Difficult negotiations are expected on this. He said that we want a solution, but the conditions should be fair. The interest of small business and middle class is paramount for us.
Told the Pakistan Army the real root of terrorism. The Foreign Minister also expressed his frank opinion on the neighboring countries. He said that most of India’s problems are because of Pakistan Army. Terrorism and anti-India thinking come from there. We have to understand the reality of Pakistan. Regarding China, he said that peace on the border is necessary. Unless there is peace on the border, relations cannot be normal. There are still many issues that remain to be resolved. It also includes issues of trade and transparency. On Bangladesh, he said that we respect the democratic process there.
