IPS Story, Haryana DGP: OP Singh is the DGP of Haryana. OP Singh made such a statement regarding Dhar that fans of Dhar got angry with him and sent a legal notice to the DGP. He also warned of legal action if he did not apologize within 15 days. After which this controversy is becoming quite viral on social media.
IPS OP Singh DGP: OP Singh is a resident of Bihar.
OP Singh i.e. Omprakash Singh is a 1992 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. OP Singh is originally a resident of Noomar village in Jamui district of Bihar. He studied BA and then cracked UPSC and became IPS. In his career, he worked as SP in many districts like Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar, Jind. Later, he became Police Commissioner in Ambala and Panchkula. Took the responsibility of IG in Rewari and Hisar range. Just last month in October 2025, there was a big uproar in Haryana Police. After the suicide of ADGP Y Puran Kumar, the then DGP Shatrujit Kapoor was sent on long leave. Then OP Singh was given the additional charge of DGP. He was earlier the MD of Haryana Police Housing Corporation, where under his leadership, new residences and office buildings for the police were extensively constructed. Apart from this, he is also the Director of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Madhuban and was also the Head of Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau. On 14 October 2025, he took the charge of DGP at Panchkula Police Headquarters. OP Singh’s retirement is on 31 December 2025 i.e. this DGP charge is the last stage of his career. His name was on the top in the seniority list, hence he got this responsibility. Overall, OP Singh is an experienced and skilled police officer, but this sharp statement has brought him into the headlines.
Connection with Bollywood also
IPS OP Singh has received many awards for his hard work. He received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2008 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2017. The most interesting thing is that he also has a connection with Bollywood. OP Singh is the brother-in-law of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant’s cousin Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu is an MLA from Chhatapur in Bihar and was also the Environment Minister in the previous Nitish Kumar government.
What is this Thar controversy that has created an uproar?
Actually, there was a press conference of DGP OP Singh in Gurugram, in which Haryana’s DGP OP Singh was talking about traffic rules and road safety. During this he said that we will not stop every vehicle, but will stop Thar or Bullet as soon as we see it. All the miscreants use Thar and bullets. Whoever has a Thar must be crazy. Thar is not a car, it is a statement that we are like this. Okay, suffer it sir. Do grandpa and don’t get trapped, how will this work? His statement went viral on social media. After which former Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala also tweeted and called it wrong.
Haryana DGP Thar Controversy: Why did Thar owner send notice to DGP?
Now coming to the issue of notice. Sarvo Mitra, resident of Sector-102, Gurugram, sent a legal notice to OP Singh through his lawyer Vedant Verma on 25 November 2025. Servo had purchased Thar in January 2023. He says that after the DGP’s statement, his life turned upside down. Sarvo Mitra says that after this statement of OP Singh, relatives, friends, neighbors and even strangers started taunting him. This caused huge mental stress to him and his family, due to which he stopped driving Thar.
What is written in the notice?
It is written in the notice that the DGP’s statement was without any facts. It is damaging the reputation of thousands of responsible Thar owners. This is promoting stereotyping and has caused mockery on social media. SERVO has demanded that within 15 days, they should issue an unconditional written apology and withdraw the statement. If he does not withdraw his statement and apologize, a defamation case will be filed under Section 356(3) of BNS.
