Why your Feet Feel more cold: Do your feet become very cold in winter? You wear warmers on your feet, yet the cold does not go away from your feet. Do you know what is the reason for this? To know this question, we talked to Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Sinha, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Aakash Healthcare, New Delhi.
Why your feet feel colder: We wear warm clothes during winter days. Covers the entire body. They even put socks and warmers on their feet. Despite this, we feel very cold in our feet. Even the whole body remains warm but when someone else touches the feet, that part will feel very cold. Have you ever wondered why this happens? This happens especially in the months of December-January. It is more so in people who have weakness in the body. To understand this topic, we spoke to Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine at Aakash Healthcare, New Delhi Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Sinha Talked to.
Root cause of cold feet
Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Sinha told that for this, first of all we have to understand the natural process of blood circulation. Blood is an important part of our body. Through this blood, oxygen, nutrients, hormones and essential chemicals reach every part of our body and from there carbon dioxide, toxins, harmful chemicals etc. come out of the body. This process is called blood circulation. Heart is the most important part in this. There is a circulatory system of about 96 thousand kilometers in our body, that is, the path through which blood travels is called circulatory path. Now the blood picks up oxygen from the lungs and delivers it to the heart. The heart pumps this oxygenated blood and it reaches every cell of the body through arteries. Now understand why feet feel cold. Actually, when the heart pumps blood, the blood reaches the surrounding organs rapidly but gradually its flow reduces. Due to this, less blood reaches the distant organs. The peripheral artery supplies blood to these organs. When the winter season arrives, there is pressure on these arteries due to the external cold, due to which the arteries here become hard. In medical term it is called vasoconstriction. Due to this there is contraction in it. Understand it this way that the blood vessels in the legs become thin or narrow. There will be less way for blood to pass inside. Due to this, blood is not able to reach there completely and when blood is not able to reach there, then cold is felt more there.
What happens when feet get cold
Now the question is what happens when blood does not reach the legs. If blood does not reach the legs in full flow, it will appear as if the color of the veins there has changed. Usually it starts turning blue. When the outside temperature becomes very low, these blood vessels start spasming due to vasoconstriction. That means muscles will start cramping. This can prove to be extremely painful. This will cause a lot of pain in the legs. If the blood does not reach there completely then it will start turning black. This is a situation where you need to go to the hospital immediately. Because then the sales there will start dying.
Who are at greater risk?
Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Told that people who already have peripheral artery disease, this problem may increase in cold weather. Along with this, people who smoke a lot will also feel more cold in their feet. After this, in conditions like diabetes, thyroid, anemia, nerve disease, the feet feel more cold. Some medicines can also aggravate this condition. Like BP medicine, headache medicine etc.
What to do so that your feet do not get cold
Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Sinha told that the reasons due to which feet feel cold will have to be found and that situation will have to be corrected. For example, if you already have any disease then you will have to get it treated. Opinion will have to be taken from doctors. If there is no disease. If you are normal then you can protect your feet from getting too cold. For this you will have to do more movement. This means that if you do regular exercise, this will not happen to you. A balanced diet can also help in this.
