These days, if a farmer adopts marketing strategy by using advanced seeds and technology for pea cultivation, then it can prove to be a profitable deal for him. Generally, the cost of pea cultivation is around Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre, which includes the expenses of sowing, harvesting, labour, transportation to the market. Net profit in one acre can be Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh or more. Some farmers even earn up to Rs 1 lakh from one bigha, it depends on the management of their farming and the market price.
don’t sell directly
Along with the local markets of Dehradun, the demand for peas is also in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and other states. Due to the quality and early availability of mountain peas, its demand is high. According to traders, 700 to 800 quintals of peas are sent from here to other markets every day. Integrated pest management and proper fertilizer management (such as use of cow dung, phosphorus and potash) can improve crop quality and quantity. In Dehradun, instead of selling peas directly, farmers can process them and sell them, such as preparing frozen peas. This increases both the value and shelf life of the product. Some farmers get better prices by selling their crops in local markets or directly from the fields to consumers.
