Dehradun: These days, the terror of bears along with leopards is deepening in Uttarakhand. Panic is prevalent in many districts of the state from Garhwal to Kumaon region. Five people have died in the bear attack, while more than sixty people are injured. The condition of the injured is also very bad. But, amidst this panic, the wild animal that has killed 52 animals in Paithani in Pauri district in the five months since July remains a mystery. No one has seen this clearly yet. This mysterious animal has been wreaking havoc in Kundil, Kuchauli and Saunth villages of Paithani for five months. There is an atmosphere of panic in the area. People are protecting the village by lighting torches, banging utensils and bursting crackers all night long.

Forest department teams are deployed here since July, camera traps have been installed, help of drones is also being taken. But this predatory animal was not visible. Dr. Pradeep Mishra, Senior Veterinary Officer of the Forest Department, who camped in the Paithani area for three days, says that based on the foot print and the hunting pattern of the animal, this predatory animal is a bear. He patrolled the entire area with his team day and night for three days, but the bear was not seen anywhere. Rajesh Chamoli, District Panchayat member of Paithani area, said that some villagers saw a bear-like animal in the darkness of the night. But, according to the villagers, it is much bigger than a normal bear. His length and height are much more than normal.
Order to shoot five times, but hunter not found

Our effort is to ensure that the bear is either tranquilized as soon as possible or captured in a cage, otherwise we have left the option of shooting it open for the field staff. The first order was issued on July 16 to kill this bear, which is proving to be the biggest headache for the Wildlife Department. Since then, orders have been issued five times. But, the forest department team has not even seen the vicious hunter yet.
When were the orders passed?
– On July 16, the first order was given that the bear should be imprisoned in a cage or tranquilized.
– Orders were issued to destroy this bear on 04 September
– Orders were issued for the third time on 20th September. To trap a bear in a cage, but the bear remained out of reach
– On 31st October, orders for shoot out were once again issued till 15th November, which has once again been extended till 30th November.
