The country’s famous painter Maqbool Fida Hussain was a man of romantic health. Once in Czechoslovakia, he fought in the eyes of a foreign girl half his age. He was so immersed in this love that he had made all the preparations for his marriage. That girl’s mind changed at the last moment. Eight years in both livin’
After this, Maria and Hussein continued to meet in Czechoslovakia for six years. Hussain postponed his return to India. He stayed there for a long time. Maria became his consort. The two roamed hand in hand in Prague as a happy couple. Their companionship lasted for eight years. 1956 to 1964. Hussain wanted to marry her.
MF Hussain was so impressed by this Czech girl that he wanted to leave his wife and marry her.
Hussain told K Vikram Singh, the author of his biography Maqbool Fida Hussain, “We thought we were living a dream. There were so many things to do.” This love came fast and both of them got gripped in a tremendous way. Hussain said, “These eight years passed as if eight minutes.”
The two decided to get married in the church
It was said in this book that it was decided that he would marry Maria in the church of Prague. He called his wife Fazila in India. Told everything. Asked to divorce, so that they can marry in a Catholic way.
He was married to Fazila Bibi in 1941. He did that marriage with the consent of Abbu and Amma. Hussain had six children from Fazila. Hussain could have four wives in the Muslim manner but Fazila agreed to divorce.
Hussain went to London to buy a wedding dress.
Hussain went to London to buy a wedding dress. There he booked a Volkswagen car for Maria. At the very last moment, Maria changed her mind. He believed that this marriage would not work, because there is a lot of difference between the culture and roots of both. She was not even ready to come to India.
Even after this, her relationship with Hussain remained intact. When Maria later married a scientist, Jane Dotier, Hussein also joined her.
He had bought a wedding dress to marry Maria. The date of marriage was also fixed but at the last moment Maria refused.
Then when she was going to Australia after marriage, Hussein specially went to Prague to get the customs cleared and sent the paintings which he had gifted to Maria. It also contained paintings that he made on the relationship between himself and Maria from the Maria series.
Made a film on my love story about Tabu
Hussein could never forget Maria. When he made the film “Meenakshi: A Tale of Three Cities” about Tabu, it was made keeping his same girlfriend in mind. Its love story was his own story. After the film was made, he got Maria discovered in Australia.
It was not easy but she got it in Melbourne. went to him himself. In Australia, Hussein was received by Maria’s daughter. The two spent three days together in Melbourne – recalling the old beautiful romantic memories. Laughed. Maria cooked food for Hussain.
Then gave the DVD of the film to his ex-girlfriend
The two met after 45 years but it seemed as if they had met only yesterday. Hussein told the biographer, it was platonic love, yes there was also closeness. We even slept together. When Hussain was returning from Australia, he handed over the DVD of the film to Maria.
Maria returned this trust after Hussain’s death
Qatar had given citizenship to Hussain. He had to leave the country in 2006. But he could never return after that. He died on 9 June 2011 in London. With that the story of Picasso of India also came to an end.
However, as a painter, many of his works continue to hypnotize people all over the world. After the death of Hussein, Maria decided to return to her home country, the Czech Republic. Then he returned all the paintings received from Hussain to his family, which were worth crores.
If she wanted, she could easily earn crores and billions by selling them. Indian culture, gods and goddesses, country, people, personalities, concerns, mythological stories were at the center of all the paintings that Hussain made. His only painting series was Maria, in which he drew glimpses of foreign culture in his paintings.
Many Bollywood actresses also became inspiration
Hussain was a personality of Romani health. Later his name was associated with many beautiful women. There were some Bollywood actresses in it, whose beauty was convincing throughout the world. He made films about some of them. He remained close to them. These included Madhuri Dixit, Tabu, Anushka, Urmila Matondkar, Amrita Rao and Vidya Balan.
Madhuri’s film viewed 67 times
He was so infatuated with Madhuri that he saw his film “Hum Aapke Hain Koun” 67 times. When Madhuri made a comeback with the film “Aaja Nachle”, she booked the entire theater in the year 2007. Saw that movie alone. Earlier, he had also made “Gajgamini” with Madhuri.
Also a series of paintings of Madhuri on “Gajgamini”. Watched Amrita Rao’s “Vivah” nine times. A painting series was created on this too. After watching “Ishqiya”, Vidya fell in love with Balan and started planning to make a new film. By the way, Maqbool was as romantic as it was controversial.
