New Delhi (DDU Website Hacked)In today’s digital age, the websites of universities and educational institutions are not only a medium of information, but also the center of student data, academic records and important administrative work, The cyber attack on the official website of Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University (DDU) is an indication of a serious security breach, This incident has not only shocked the university administration but has also increased the concern of students and teachers,
Information about a Turkish company is visible on the official website of DDU www.ddugu.ac.in. It is believed that this attack was not limited to just deactivating the server, but there could be some definite objective behind it. Due to such attacks, there is a possibility of data theft or ransomware, which raises a big question mark on the digital security of educational institutions. This incident of hacking has forced the technical experts of the university to take immediate action.
Question raised on cyber security
Details of the Turkish company on DDU’s website suggest that the hackers may have targeted the Domain Name System (DNS) or hosting servers. After this incident, the university not only needs to restore the website, but also needs to establish strong cyber security audit and firewall systems to avoid such attacks in future. Students have been advised not to click on any link or share sensitive information until the website is completely secure.
DDU website homepage changed
The incident of hacking on the website of DDU Gorakhpur University came to light when normal users were trying to open the website. The homepage of the site has been completely changed. In place of the official information of the university, some text in Turkish language and details of some Turkish company or group are being displayed. This type of hacking is called ‘Defacing’ in technical language, where the hacker changes the homepage of the website.
Cyber security experts engaged in action
Immediately after the incident came to light, the university administration took the website offline. The information technology (IT) department of the university immediately started working with a team of cyber security experts. The investigation team is checking the hosting provider, DNS records and server logs. With this, the source of hacking and the entry point of the hacker can be detected. The university has emphasized on ensuring that there is no major loss or theft of student or administrative data. However, a thorough audit is underway for confirmation.
Why Turkish details?
There are two main possible reasons why Turkish details are not displayed on the website:
- Geo-Political Motivation: This attack could be from a hacker group of Turkish origin, whose aim is only to showcase its digital capabilities.
- Try to divert: It may be that this was done only to divert attention and the real hacker may belong to some other country or group, who has deliberately inserted information of another country.
The university administration has lodged a complaint in this regard with the cyber crime branch and is expected to restore the website with full security soon.
