“When I play for my country I only think about trying to win the next point, trying to fight very hard for my teammates, for everyone who is here and everyone watching from home,” Berrettini said.
“That’s the greatest privilege. If I win it will be better, but I try to enjoy being there every time. It’s something very special.”
Cobolli, world number 22, followed his compatriot with a resounding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Austrian number one Filip Misolic.
Cobolli, 23, who impressed by advancing to the Wimbledon quarter-finals this year, dominated a first set that lasted just 30 minutes with three breaks of serve.
She strengthened her control of the match at the start of the second set, securing an early break as she took a 3-0 lead, before confidently clawing her way to victory.
Cobolli echoed his teammate’s sentiments in his post-match interview: “We all want to win this cup and I felt the support from the bench, it was incredible.
“When I play for them, it’s something I can’t describe.”
