Jharkhand High Court has lifted its stay on the order to Chief Minister Hemant Soren to appear personally before the lower court (MP/MLA Court) in the ED case. ED had complained against the CM for ignoring 8 out of 10 summons in the land scam case. Due to this decision of the High Court, his legal problems have increased, on which BJP has asked the CM to respect the court.
Ranchi: Once again, legal threat is looming over the chair of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. On Tuesday, the Jharkhand High Court has lifted its previous stay ordering the personal appearance of the MP/MLA (MP/MLA) before the Ranchi court in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). This decision is being considered a big blow for the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Soren had filed a criminal miscellaneous petition in the High Court challenging the order of the MP/MLA court directing him to appear personally on the ED complaint petition.
ED had filed a complaint
This case is related to money laundering case related to land scam. ED had filed the complaint petition before the special MP/MLA court in 2024. ED’s Ranchi office director and complainant Devraj Jha had told the court that 10 summons were sent to the Chief Minister to appear before the agency, but the CM appeared only twice and ignored the rest of the summons.
During the hearing of the ED complaint petition, the special judge had directed Hemant Soren to appear before the court in person. After this, the Chief Minister had approached the High Court, which had stayed the implementation of this order of the lower court in December 2024.
High Court gave a blow
During the hearing in the High Court on Tuesday, the state government demanded an adjournment. Despite allowing the adjournment, the High Court lifted its earlier stay.
After this decision, the opposition BJP has become the attacker. BJP has demanded the Chief Minister to respect the court’s decision and follow the legal process. Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) said, “This matter is under consideration and the state government is pursuing the matter. It would not be right to make any comment at this time.” With this move of the High Court, the way has been cleared for the personal presence of CM Soren in the MP/MLA court.
