Semal Doda Recipe: Semal Doda is a traditional desi vegetable from the Pandava period, which is still famous for its real desi taste and medicinal properties in the rural areas of Nagaur. It is an excellent source of fiber, antioxidants and strength-boosting minerals. Its vegetable prepared using rural method is considered very useful in improving digestion, removing weakness and increasing energy.
Nagaur. Even today, many traditional dishes are popular in the rural areas of Rajasthan due to their originality and medicinal properties. One such dish is Semal Dode ki Sabji, which is considered to be a local dish made since the Pandava period. Semal Doda, which is easily available in the fields and villages, is not only delicious in taste but is also considered very beneficial for health.
The elders of the village say that the lower part of the Semal Doda is the most nutritious. The vegetable is prepared by cleaning it and roasting it in spices. Many people also add potatoes or soybeans to it to increase its taste and nutrition. It is believed that it provides energy to the body and in ancient times it was consumed to increase strength. According to the local people, “Eating Semal Doda vegetable gives strength like Bhima,” this belief is still prevalent among the elders of the village.
Semal Doda: Rich in fiber, antioxidants and minerals
According to health expert Dr. Anju Chaudhary, Semal Doda is very effective in improving digestion. It contains high fiber, which is helpful in relieving constipation, cleaning the intestines and reducing gas and acidity.
It increases the body’s immunity and regular consumption provides relief from weakness and fatigue. The antioxidants present in it make it a superfood.
Very beneficial for women also
Semal flowers, peel and gum have been traditionally used in women’s health. It is also considered beneficial in the following problems:
- leucorrhoea
- weakness during periods
- skin problems
- Home remedy to increase strength
In villages it is considered the best natural source of increasing strength. Semal Doda vegetable was especially given to people recovering from illness or suffering from prolonged weakness. By adding potato and soybean, its nutritional value increases manifold, making it a complete diet.
Traditional Desi Recipe of Semal Doda (Rural Method)
Shanti Devi of the village shares her traditional method:
Preparation:
- Break the kidney bud and wash it with clean water.
- Remove the bottom part and remove all the fluffy cotton-like material.
- Save only the strong peel and cut it into small pieces.
Vegetable Preparation:
- Fry the spices in the pan (cumin, turmeric, red chilli, coriander etc.).
- Now add chopped semolina to it.
- If you wish, add potato or soybean and fry for 4-5 minutes.
- Add water, cover and cook on low flame for 12-15 minutes.
- When the peels become soft, the vegetable is ready. Adding some ghee at the end increases both the taste and strength.
