Now, along with traditional farming, there is a growing trend among farmers towards fish farming. Experts say that by adopting the right technology, farmers can earn lakhs annually from one acre pond.
Deoghar: Farmers are no longer limited to traditional farming only. Many farmers believe that traditional farming does not provide as much economic benefit as the cost. Many farmers are currently earning good profits from horticulture. Along with this, farmers are earning well from fish farming. Now with new technology, farmers have started doing business in different things. The inclination towards fish farming has also increased significantly among the farmers. If you also want to earn good income through fish farming, then know from fisheries experts which fish should be produced and how to do it so that you can get good profit at low cost.
What do fisheries experts say?
While talking to the correspondent of Local 18, Deoghar’s fisheries expert Vakil Yadav said that if the farmer has a big pond which is called evergreen pond and in which water remains throughout the year, then this is a good option. In that pond, IMC i.e. Rahu, Katla, Mrigal species of fish can be reared. There is a high demand for these species of fish in the local market of Deoghar also. Which is easily sold at good prices. If you do not have a big pond or do not have space to do fish farming, then you can also do fish farming through techniques like biofloc, RS etc.
Less expenditure in IMC species fish farming
Fisheries experts say that the maintenance cost of IMC species of fish is very low compared to other species of fish. One fish of IMC costs Rs 35 and is sold in the market for Rs 170 to 190 per kg. IMC feeds only homemade feed to the fish. This grain is made by mixing gram flour, paddy bran and mustard cake.
One acre will earn lakhs of rupees
If you build a pond in 1 to 2 acres and do fish farming properly, then it is possible to earn an income of Rs 1 to 2 lakh in a year. There is huge demand for fishes like Katla, Rohu, Mrigal and Tilapia in the market. Under government schemes, subsidies and training are also provided for fisheries in many states.
Government gives subsidy
Farmers who want to do fish farming along with farming are given benefits by the government under Matsya Sampada Yojana. Actually, this scheme has been started by the government to protect the interests of farmers and fishermen in the country. Under this scheme, the government provides financial assistance to farmers and fish farmers for their projects, from fish seeds to digging of ponds. However, to avail the benefits of this scheme, digging of a pond in at least 1 bigha area is mandatory. Under this scheme, there is a provision of giving 40 percent subsidy to general category farmers and fish farmers and 60 percent subsidy to SC-ST as well as women farmers and fish farmers.
