Lucknow: Even after the notice sent by ED in the cough syrup smuggling case, mastermind Shubham Jaiswal has not appeared. This was the last notice of ED. Now ED will issue NBW, Red Corner Notice against Shubham. SIT also held video conferencing with the investigators investigating the case. The investigators were instructed to establish a financial trail in the case. The police will also issue a Red Corner Notice against Shubham in the case registered in Varanasi. Shubham has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court to end the ongoing investigation and cases against him.
Arrest warrant issued
Arrest warrant has been issued against absconding accused Shubham Jaiswal and Vikas Singh Narve in the cough syrup smuggling case. Arrest warrant issued in the case registered in Sushant Golf City police station, Lucknow in February 2025. STF investigation confirmed smuggling of cough syrup through fake firms. The role of Shubham Jaiswal and Vikas Singh Narve in the smuggling syndicate has been revealed. Shubham Jaiswal is a resident of Varanasi and Vikas Singh Narve is a resident of Azamgarh. Lucknow District Court issued arrest warrant.
Bail plea of two accused rejected
The Allahabad High Court on Monday rejected the writ petitions of two accused in the Codeine cough syrup case – Sintu alias Akhilesh Prakash and Akash Maurya. The petitioners had approached the court challenging the FIR registered against them and requesting a stay on the arrest in this case. This order was passed by the bench of Justice Ajay Bhanot and Justice Garima Prasad. An FIR was registered against these accused at Kotwali police station in Jaunpur.
‘This is a serious crime’
The court rejected the petitions saying that this act of the petitioners is a crime of serious nature against the society. The court said the accused are suspected kingpins of a large cross-border narcotics network and members of an alleged codeine-based cough syrup smuggling racket in Uttar Pradesh. This narcotics network was allegedly built on fake companies and fake documents.
Fake companies created to dispose of illegal consignments
It has been alleged in the FIR that these accused had formed a chain to transport cough syrup laced with codeine in huge quantities from stock points in Ghaziabad and Varanasi to Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Nepal and Bangladesh. It has been alleged in the FIR that several fake companies were formed to pass off the illegal consignment as legitimate pharma consignment. Several FIRs have been registered in this case in Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Jaunpur and other districts. It is noteworthy that on Friday, another bench of Allahabad High Court had given interim protection to two accused in a similar case and fixed December 17 as the date of next hearing.
