Clove beans benefits: The city of Maryada Purushottam Prabhu Ram is now making its own identity for scientific achievements along with ancient heritage. These days, a new variety of vegetable is being prepared in Acharya Narendra Dev Agricultural University of Ayodhya. You will also be surprised to know its specialty. It looks like cloves in appearance, but is completely different in taste. This vegetable known as Ipomoea muricata is rich in antioxidants, fiber and vitamins.
The Department of Vegetable Science at Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology (Kumarganj) is developing a new species of vegetable like clove. It has been named clove bean. It is also becoming quite popular due to its medicinal properties. This vine vegetable known as Ipomoea muricata is rich in antioxidants, fiber and vitamins. It is cooked and eaten. It is completely different from cloves, but looks similar.
Five varieties of clove bean have been planted in the premises of the Vegetable Science Department of Kumarganj Agricultural University. Dr. Aastik Jha, Associate Professor of Vegetable Science Department, is doing research on these with his entire team.
This vegetable is small and pointed in shape, which looks exactly like a clove. It grows in clusters on the vine. Its soft pods are eaten. After ripening, its fruit is about 2 centimeters long. It also becomes purple-red in colour.

Dr. Jha, Associate Professor, Department of Vegetable Science, said that clove bean is a medicinal vegetable, which is very popular in South Indian states like Kerala and Karnataka. It is mainly used for medicine. It is also considered helpful in controlling heart attack, cholesterol and blood pressure. It contains abundant amounts of fiber and antioxidants, which also helps in digestion.
It is used in the treatment of diseases like stomach problems, fever, headache, pain and bronchitis. Its leaves are used in healing wounds and reducing swelling. It is rich in many beneficial vitamins.
