Kolkata. A strange confusion regarding name has come to light in the politics of West Bengal. In Murshidabad, an MLA announced to build a mosque like Babri Masjid. But it affected another MLA 200 kilometers away. There was such a rush among people to donate money in the name of Babri that the phone of Humayun Kabir, MLA from Debra, West Medinipur, did not stop ringing. People are considering him as the MLA who built the mosque and are asking for QR code to donate.
Former IPS became victim of mistaken identity: Suspended TMC MLA from Rezinagar, Murshidabad, Humayun Kabir had appealed for donations for the mosque in Beldanga on Saturday. He would not have even imagined that trouble would befall his namesake and party colleague. Debra MLA Humayun Kabir, who is a former IPS officer, is now troubled by this ‘wrong number’. For the last two days, he has been continuously receiving calls from unknown numbers on his mobile.
Demand for more than 200 calls and QR codes: Debra MLA told that for the last one week he has been continuously hearing such calls and messages. Almost all the people calling want to send money for Murshidabad Mosque. He has only one routine – ‘Give me the QR code’. The MLA told that he has to explain again and again that he is not Humayun Kabir of Murshidabad. He is a different person. He told that calls are coming from Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Haryana, Rajasthan and even from abroad.
Every unknown call had to be borne heavily: The former police officer said that he usually picks up all the unknown numbers to help the public. But in the last two days he must have received around 200 such calls. He politely asks people to find the correct number and contact the other Humayun Kabir directly. This case of mistaken identity has become a headache for them.
Clarification given on Facebook: Feeling upset, Debra MLA also made her stand clear on Facebook. He wrote in a post that temples and mosques are not arenas for political wrestling. These are places of prayer and worship. Let us tell you that Debra MLA had left the police job to join politics in 2021.
93 lakh donations so far for Babri Masjid: At the same time, according to associates of suspended Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir from TMC, 11 big donation boxes were kept at the venue on Saturday. By Sunday evening, four donation boxes and a bag full of cash were opened for counting, in which Rs 37.33 lakh was found. So far, Rs 93 lakh has been received as online donation through QRcode.
