FaridabadA two-day doctors’ strike has started in government hospitals of Haryana from Monday, Haryana Civil Medical Services Association (HCMSA) has decided to take mass leave, accusing the government of not fulfilling its promises, The direct effect of the strike is being seen in BK Hospital of Faridabad, where patients are facing problems by standing in long lines since morning, Many people took leave and reached the hospital, but they did not know that the doctors were on strike, The condition of the people who have come for treatment is such that even after waiting for hours, there is no hope of getting a prescription, nor is there any arrangement for doctors,
While talking to Local18, the patients openly expressed their problems. Munni Devi told that she has been standing in the queue since morning, but no process has started yet. Nisha, who came for treatment, said that she had come to show her daughter. He was referred to BK Hospital from Ballabhgarh Government Hospital, but the prescription counter was not even opened here. He said that if the counter itself is closed then how will the treatment be done? Fuljan, a woman from Old Faridabad, also told that she has been in the queue for a long time, but no facility has been started till now. Ajit, who came from Dabua Colony, said that the counter which opens at 9 o’clock is closed even after 11 o’clock due to which people are very upset.
Vinod, who had come from Rajasthan for treatment, told that he had come here with high hopes, but due to the counter being closed, his number could not be found. Rinku Devi, who came from Sanjay Colony, said that she was standing in the queue for 10-15 minutes, but there was no movement inside. Sheetal, who came from Tigaon, also repeated the same complaint of having to stand in the queue. But arrangements are not visible even to open the counter. Rajkumar Shah told that the doctor had asked to get an X-ray done but the machine was said to be faulty. He said, whom should a poor man go to?
Jhulkar Main, who came from Badkhal, said that his father is admitted in BK Hospital for the last 8-10 days, but the report has not come yet. He came to know about the strike today. He works as a painter and is very worried about his ailing father. He says that if they had known about the strike earlier, perhaps they would have been able to make other arrangements.
What is the reason for the doctors’ strike in Haryana?
Talking about the demands of the doctors, Dr. Anjali said that their main demand is that direct recruitment of SMOs should be stopped. He said that many doctors become SMO after working for 20-22 years but are able to work on the post of SMO for only 6 months till retirement. In such a situation, recruiting junior doctors directly to the post of SMO is injustice to senior doctors.
When government took action after 12 years, doctors got angry
Dr. M.P. Singh, who is the state-wise president of the association, said that their two major demands have been pending for the last 12 years. The first direct SMO recruitment should be closed. Because only special people get a chance in these. Secondly, doctors who have been working for a long time should be given promotion and financial benefits. He said that a major reason for the shortage of doctors is that medical workers do not get proper promotion. Reminding the times of Covid, he said that doctors of states like Bihar had demanded double salary but doctors of Haryana gave priority only to social service and worked without additional facilities. It is noteworthy that the situation in the hospital is such that long queues of patients, closed counters, stalled tests and delay in reports have increased the problems of the people. Due to the strike, health services will be affected for two days.
