Cold weather is challenging for animals, but with a little care and proper eating habits, animals remain healthy and also produce good milk. Experts believe that making preparations as soon as winter starts reduces the risk of diseases to a great extent.
Talking to Local 18, veterinary doctor Rakesh Tiwari says that just as humans feel cold, animals also feel the cold quickly. Therefore, special attention should be paid to keeping the enclosure warm. Try to keep the doors and windows of the cattle shed closed in the cold wind. If possible, cover it all around with straw, gunny, plastic sheet or sack. Spread dry chaff or paddy straw at the sleeping place of the animals, so that their bodies get warmth. If the ground is wet, dry it immediately and do not allow moisture to remain, otherwise joint pain and fever may occur.
In winter, animals need more energy than usual, because it takes more energy to maintain body temperature in cold. Therefore, the quantity of green fodder, grains and cake should be increased slightly in cold weather. Dr. Rakesh Tiwari explains that giving cake and grains produces heat in the body. Jaggery, bran and mustard cake are especially beneficial in this season. Be sure to give green fodder so that digestion remains proper.

It is very important to provide hot water in winter. Most of the cattle farmers give only cold water in winter, which increases the risk of pneumonia, cough and fever. Try to give lukewarm water at least twice a day. This will not only keep the animal healthy but will also provide better milk quantity.
Incense acts as medicine for animals. Keep them tied in the open for some time during the day, so that sunlight can reach the body and Vitamin-D can also be obtained.
Before winter arrives, a complete course of vaccination and deworming medicines should be done. This provides protection from many seasonal diseases. If the animal is eating less, the milk suddenly decreases, breathing becomes difficult or fever appears, then get immediate treatment.
