Rishikesh: Today the effect of cold and cold wave is likely to deepen further in Uttarakhand. The cold weather that has been going on since last few days will continue in the entire state on this day also. According to the estimates of the Meteorological Department, dense fog can be seen in the plains and the effect of frost along with severe cold can be seen in the hilly areas. The weather will remain dry, but due to cold winds the temperature will remain below normal. You will feel chilly throughout the day and there will be little hope of getting relief from cold.

Due to dense fog, visibility can be very low, making walking on roads and highways risky. The morning temperature in the hilly districts is likely to drop to –3°C to 1°C. The effect of frost and cold winds will be clearly visible in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. Due to Wind Chill the cold will be felt more than the actual temperature.
There may be sunshine in some areas in the afternoon, but it will not provide much warmth. The maximum temperature in the plains can reach 13°C–16°C. Whereas in hilly areas the day temperature will be limited to between 6°C–10°C. Cold winds will continue to blow, due to which it will remain cold despite the sunshine. Cloud movement may persist in high altitude areas, although the chances of heavy rain or snowfall are less.
Sharp drop in temperature again
As the evening approaches, the cold will intensify once again. Night temperatures in the plains may drop to 3°C–5°C, while in the hilly areas it is likely to reach –4°C to 0°C. The risk of frost will increase due to moisture and falling temperatures. In areas where there is fog in the morning, the roads may become slippery at night. Strong cold winds will increase the cold of the night further.
