Today’s Weather Report: With the beginning of the second fortnight of December, a large part of North India has come under the grip of dense fog. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of very dense fog in many areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on 16 and 17 December. In Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi also, normal life may be affected due to dense fog in the morning. Talking about hilly states, foggy conditions are expected to persist in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well as in North-Eastern India for the next few days. At the same time, cold has increased in Delhi, along with it pollution has also increased. There is an outcry due to pollution in Delhi-NCR.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall in the high altitude areas of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal, due to which the cold may increase. According to meteorologists, western disturbances, increasing humidity, stagnant winds and rapidly falling temperatures at night are creating favorable conditions for fog in North India. Apart from this, the western jet stream is active over north-west India, due to which the atmosphere remains stable. This is the reason why fog lasts for a long time in the plains and is not clearing till late in the morning.

According to the Meteorological Department, till the morning of December 15, visibility was very low in many areas. Visibility reached zero meters in Agra and Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh, while it was recorded only 20 meters in Taj Agra area. Visibility was also between 25 to 150 meters in cities like Aligarh, Bareilly, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Etawah. At the same time, visibility at Delhi’s Safdarjung and Palam airports fell to 50 meters, which affected flight operations. Due to dense fog from Delhi’s IGI Airport, 40 flights were canceled yesterday.
Fog breaker for train-flight operation
Not only this, due to dense traffic in Delhi, more than 200 flights were delayed by hours. Also, more than half a dozen flats reaching Delhi were diverted to Jaipur and Ahmedabad due to dense traffic. The condition of Railways was also similar. More than 100 trains were delayed due to dense traffic. Apart from Delhi, if we talk about Punjab, 10 meters visibility was recorded in Bathinda and 50 meters in Amritsar, while it was 30 meters in Hisar, Haryana. Fog remained very dense in Satna, Rewa and Khajuraho of Madhya Pradesh.
The minimum temperature in North-West India is likely to drop by about 2°C in the next 2-3 days, after which it may increase by 2-3°C. There is a possibility of light rain or snowfall at some places in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on December 15 and around December 20-21. There is a possibility of very dense fog in the morning in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh till 15-20 December. Low level cyclonic circulation is present in South Tamil Nadu and surrounding areas. Due to its effect, there is a possibility of rain in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. There is a possibility of light rain with strong winds in Andaman and Nicobar Islands between 15 and 18 December. Wind speed can reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, due to which marine activities will be affected. - Temperature may go down further in these areas
At many places in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, the minimum temperature dropped below 5 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and many parts of Central India, the temperature was recorded between 5 to 10 degrees. Temperatures were recorded much below normal at many places in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Odisha. There is no possibility of much change in temperature in other areas. A warning has been issued regarding dense fog in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Northeast India. There is a need to be very careful especially in the morning.
