This is recognition
Let us tell you that Paush Amavasya has special significance in Chitrakoot, the land of religion and spirituality. According to belief, Paush Amavasya falling in the month of December is considered very fruitful for ancestral peace and religious rituals. On this day, by bathing in holy rivers, offering donations and fasting, the souls of the ancestors are satisfied and one gets freedom from Pitra Dosha. Also, worship of Sun God and Lord Vishnu brings happiness, prosperity and peace in life. It is believed that on the day of Amavasya, Lord Shri Ram comes to Chitrakoot and takes bath in the Mandakini river. It is this faith that draws devotees here from far and wide.
Strong security arrangements
For information, let us tell you that devotees enjoy the boat after bathing in Maa Mandakini. Then they visit Matagjendranath, bow their heads before Totamukhi Hanumanji and then circumambulate Kamadgiri mountain and pray to Lord Ram for the happiness and peace of their family. The district administration also seems to be fully prepared for the Paush Amavasya fair. In view of the huge crowd of devotees, strict security arrangements have been made. Additional police forces, divers and health teams have been deployed at the Mandakini river ghats.
Shri Ram also takes bath on Amavasya
Chitrakoot priest Mohit Das informed Local 18 that the Paush Amavasya fair will start from tonight itself and it will continue for two days. He told that this is the last Amavasya of the year, in which the sins and sufferings of the devotees are removed by taking bath in Maa Mandakini and doing charity. Lord Shri Ram had also performed Pind Daan of his father Dasharatha by taking bath in this holy river. Even today devotees come here with this faith and believe that Lord Ram himself resides in Chitrakoot on the day of Amavasya.
