ISMT Limited and Jindal Shaw Limited filed a petition with the DGTR for a sunset review of anti-dumping duty on seamless tubes, pipes, iron hollow profiles imported from China and alloy or non-alloy steel. Under the Sunset Review, it is assessed whether the need for a program or agency is over or is still there. It is an assessment of the effectiveness and performance of a program or agency. The petition alleged that the dumping of these products continues even after imposing anti-dumping duty. Their imports have increased. The notification states that according to the evidence provided by the domestic companies, if the current duty expires then it should be continued.

The DGTR will review whether anti-dumping duty should be continued or not. These steel products coming from China were imposed anti-dumping duty in February 2017 and will expire on 16 May 2021. If this decision is not carried forward then there will be no anti-dumping duty on these steel products imported from China after 16 May 2021. This duty was imposed to ensure fair trade practices and to protect the interests of domestic producers.
