Huang’s statement shows that even the world’s most powerful tech companies are now being affected by political boundaries. If America completely excludes China in the field of AI, it may upset the balance of global innovation.
New Delhi. A statement by Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, the world’s largest chip manufacturer, has created a stir in the tech world. Huang says that China will overtake America in the race of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This statement has come at a time when there is tremendous competition going on between the two countries for supremacy in technology and semiconductor sector. Speaking at the Financial Times’ Future of AI Summit, Huang said, “China is going to win the AI race.” In a post on Huang said that if America wants to win, it will have to keep developers from all over the world on its side.
Huang said in October that if the entire world, including China’s huge developer community, worked on Nvidia’s systems, the US could win the AI battle. “We want America to win the AI race. We also want the whole world to build on the American technology stack. But if we want to win, we also have to be in China and engage developers there,” Huang said at the Nvidia Developer Conference in Washington.
American ban on China becomes a big challenge
The tussle between America and China over AI chips has now taken the form of open war. China is unable to get advanced AI chips from companies like Nvidia because the US has imposed strict export restrictions on them. Nvidia is currently the world’s most valuable tech company, and its chips are considered the backbone of the AI revolution. Nvidia has not yet applied for a US export license to sell chips to China. Huang had earlier said that this decision was taken due to Beijing’s attitude towards the company.
Losing half the developers is very damaging*
Huang said that if a policy is made such that America loses half of the world’s AI developers, it will be harmful to us in the long run. US President Donald Trump said in an interview broadcast on Sunday that Nvidia’s most advanced Blackwell chips should be reserved only for American customers. Trump also said that Washington would allow China to do a limited amount of trade with Nvidia, but not in the most advanced semiconductor technology.
