Kopra Reservoir of Bilaspur district has been declared the first Ramsar site of Chhattisgarh. After this historic achievement, there is an atmosphere of happiness and pride in the entire state. Ramsar status is given to those wetlands which are extremely important at the global level in terms of biodiversity, water conservation and environmental balance.
Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap has congratulated the people of the state on this achievement. He said that the unique ecology, rich water ecosystem and diversity of local and migratory birds of Kopra Reservoir have played an important role in getting it Ramsar recognition. This achievement is a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh.

Kopra Reservoir is an ideal habitat for migratory birds. Every year in winter thousands of birds from India and abroad come here. Their chirping and colorful colors make the peaceful atmosphere of the reservoir even more charming. Due to adequate food, safe habitat and favorable environment, many rare species are also seen here.
This reservoir is located in Sakri village, about 115 kilometers from the capital Raipur and about 10 kilometers from Bilaspur city. A bird festival was organized here by the Forest Department for bird conservation and awareness, in which active participation of bird lovers, local youth and tourists was seen.
The local economy has also been strengthened by the bird festival and increasing tourism. Local youth are getting employment as guides, while handicrafts and local cuisine are getting new identity. Due to natural beauty, biodiversity and conservation efforts, Kopra Reservoir has become the pride of Bilaspur today and in the coming years, it is moving towards becoming a big center of tourism and environmental protection.
