Winter Child Care Tips: As soon as the cold weather starts, the skin of small children is the first to be affected. Especially in this, problems like cracking of cheeks, redness and burning sensation become common. This problem increases every year in winter and it proves to be a big challenge for mothers to keep their child’s face safe. According to doctors, as the temperature falls, the natural moisture of the babies’ skin decreases rapidly, due to which the skin becomes dry and starts cracking. In such a situation, home and safe remedies come as a reliable support which provide instant relief and keep the skin of children soft.
Why do children’s cheeks crack in winter?
Talking to Local 18, skin specialist Dr. Puneet Aggarwal says that the body’s natural oil, sebum, starts producing less in winter. This is the same oil which naturally protects the skin. When the sebum decreases, the skin becomes dry, after which problems like flaking, redness and peeling of the skin on the upper part of the cheeks increase. According to experts, direct exposure to cold air or increasing intensity of sunlight day by day can also harm the skin of children, hence it is very important to keep the face covered, for which children, teens and adults can use a towel or face cover.
These home remedies available at home will provide relief
Everyday things also prove effective in protecting children’s skin. Applying natural alternatives like cow ghee, coconut oil and shea butter gently on the baby’s cheeks helps in maintaining moisture for a long time. Its use not only reduces dryness but also the cracked skin starts healing gradually.
Food also plays a big role, include these things
Experts believe that the diet of children in winter directly affects their skin health. Nutritious foods like green vegetables, jaggery, milk, pulses and gram help in keeping the skin hydrated from within. These foods make the skin strong by fulfilling the deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals in the body.
Avoid these mistakes, otherwise problems will increase
Washing children’s face with very hot water can further dry out the skin, which increases skin cracking. Therefore, use only lukewarm water. After washing your face, do not forget to apply moisturizer of a good company immediately. Apart from this, while going out, keep the child’s face covered so that the cold wind and sunlight do not harm the skin.
