Meaning of Simhachalam- The name of the temple ‘Simhachalam’ is made up of two words – ‘Singh’ which means ‘lion’ (lion) and ‘Achal’ which means ‘mountain’. This mountain and temple is associated with the Narasimha incarnation of Lord Vishnu, which he took to kill Prahlad’s tyrannical father Hiranyakashyap.

It is believed that God himself had told Prahlad to apply sandalwood paste throughout the year so that his fierce energy remains balanced.
